A woman’s touch. The impact of gender on political priorities

In his master thesis Askill Harkjerr Halse discusses the possibility that gender has an effect on political priorities theoretically within the framework of political economics.

Abstract:

Recent studies have found evidence that the gender of elected politicians matters for political outcomes. In my thesis I discuss the possibility of such an effect theoretically within the framework of political economics. In my own empirical analysis using a rich panel data set, I find that more women in Norwegian local councils seems to have led to more spending on public childcare and cultural services. The estimated effects are however very small in magnitude.
