Implementation

Of the 370 patients who were included, 86% finished after mutual agreement with a therapist. Of the 14% who finished without such mutual agreement, only 9% were classified as not having completed treatment (finished without common agreement with a therapist and with less than 20 hours treatment.

Duration

There was a large variation with regards to hours of therapy (1-364 hours), the average was 52 hours, or 21 months (median = 35 hours, 14 months). Most (72%) had less than 50 treatment hours.

Observer evaluated changes

The occurrence of symptom diagnosis became reduced from 89-59% with conclusion and with follow-up 2 years after this was statistically seen as stable (46%). The occurrence of personality disorders was 48% with admission, 30% with conclusion and 24% with follow-up. Of the 175 who had one or more personality disorders at the start of therapy, occurrence was reduced by 45 percentage points at conclusion of therapy and with 57 percentage points with follow-up. (from 100-43%). Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF). Changes in global adaptability were great with therapy completion, increasing significantly after treatment to a level which was described as “some mild symptoms or some difficulties in social, occupational or educational connections, but functioned generally well”.

Changes in self-reported interpersonal problems and symptoms:

The average level for the whole selection became reduced with medium effect sizes on both the scales and the changes and was stabile 2 years after therapy completion. 50-55% of the patients showed a reasonably positive change. Those who didn’t complete the treatment didn’t change on any of the scales.
