Academic interests
Arto Väisänen’s specific academic interests include the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy, and Common Security and Defence Policies (CFSP/CSDP), EU decision-making, small European states, comparative regionalism, and European security governance. His PhD project examines how the European security governance constitutes a political network and how this shapes the influence and power of small European states in shaping said security governance.
Background
Väisänen has an advanced MA from College of Europe, Bruges on EU International Relations and Diplomacy, MA from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva (IHEID) Switzerland on International Relations and Political Science, and BscEc from Aberystwyth University in Wales, on International Politics. He previously worked as a researcher in an ENGAGE-project on the EU and global governance at Tampere University, Finland. Before this, he also worked in private sector, and EU institutions in Brussels.
