In July 2013 the House of Lords EU Select Committee launched an inquiry into the role of national parliaments in the EU.
John Erik Fossum and Ben Crum submitted a report on the role of national parliaments in EU decision-making based on the findings from their edited volume Practices of inter-parliamentary coordination in international politics: The European Union and beyond (ECPR Press, 2013). This volume includes contributions from eighteen European political scientists who examine the challenges for parliamentarians who operate in an internationalizing context.

Based on this inquiry, the House of Lords EU Committee published the report 'The Role of National Parliaments in the European Union' (pdf) on 24 March 2014.
The House of Lords calls for a greater role for national parliaments in EU decision-making. The report will receive a response from the Government, and the European Commission, and will be debated by the House of Lords.
