RECON’s concluding conference discusses key findings from the 5-year long project (2007-2011), which has focused on the conditions for democracy in Europe.
Europe has recently been struck with a crisis that also exposes the democratic challenges facing the European Union. What are the prospects for democracy beyond the nation state in this time of crisis? This question will be discussed by scholars from across Europe and beyond when RECON presents highlights from five years of research at a public seminar in Oslo.
The book European Stories: Intellectual Debates on Europe in National Contexts, edited by Justine Lacroix and Kalypso Nicolaïdis within the framework of RECON's WP 5 - Civil Society and the Public Sphere, was presented and debated at a conference organised by the Spinelli Group in the European Parliament in Brussels.

RECON’s midterm conference in Prague will aim at engaging participants in a constructive discussion on the theoretical models underlying the project, as well as taking stock of RECON’s research halfway through the project.
ARENA hosted the first RECON conference in Oslo on 26-27 January 2007. This was the first time that all researchers in the consortium met as a whole. The two-day conference addressed the main problems regarding supranational governance and democracy in Europe and presented the main themes of the project.
