Nadchodzą nowi mieszczanie
[A new urban middle class is developing]

Gazeta Wyborcza, 22 September 2009

The RECON team at the Jagiellonian University Krakow has experienced a great interest for their research on the changing identity of the so-called ‘new urban middle class’ (‘nowe mieszczanstwo’) in Poland. Paweł Kubicki and Marcin Galent have studied the young urban population in Kraków and Wrocław. Their research reveals that European identification could enforce local identification and is part of JUK’s studies within RECON's WP 8 on constructing and reconstructing collective identity including qualitative analyses of collective identity formation in Poland.

The research and its major findings have attracted attention not only from academia, but also from the Polish newspapers Gazeta KrakowGazeta Wyborcza and Gazeta Wroclawska, as well as the radio station Polskie Radio Wroclaw and Internet fora.
