NEXT Seminar: Methods, data and ethics: limitations and opportunities in extremism research

This seminar is for members of the Network for young researchers on extremism - NEXT.

This seminar will cover a wide range of issues concerning methodological approaches in research on radicalization and extremism. It will provide an opportunity to present and receive feedback on your work-in-progress, or simply to informally discuss methodological issues you might be facing in your own research. We will also address important issues regarding research ethics, particularly in light of recent legislation on data use and protection.

Concretely, three NEXT members will present their methodologies and methods-related issues in the seminar, and will be given feedback from the rest of the group. We will also have a presentation by Vidar Enebakk, Director of The National Committee for Research Ethics in the Social Sciences and the Humanities (NESH). He will introduce the new General Data Protection Regulation and relevant ethical guidelines for research on extremism and related topics, and will also go into issues of conducting research online.
