PhD Workshop: Studying Online Violent Extremism: Methods, Personal Safety, and Ethics.

The study of online violent extremism is an emerging and growing field in academia – one that can, however, expose researchers to risk of harm online and offline.

Guided by GIFCT’s mission to counter online extremism, this two-day workshop aims to provide PhD students with foundation skills for studying online extremist groups. The workshop will cover three core themes: online methodologies, personal safety and wellbeing, and research ethics.

This workshop will be held on 26-27 June 2023 at the University of Oslo and at Utøya.

This training is organised by Dr. Nicola Mathieson (Global Network on Extremism and Technology, International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation, King’s College London) and Dr. Audrey Gagnon (Centre for Research on Extremism, University of Oslo).

If you have questions about the training, please email nicola.mathieson@kcl.ac.uk.
