How should scholars of the far right navigate a predominantly white, male field, and engage with research subjects that embrace white- and male supremacy? This webinar aims to initiate a discussion on the challenges faced by female, trans*, and other researchers from marginalised groups, when researching the far right.  We have the privilege of hosting four panellists who will discuss this topic, sharing their own experiences, thoughts, concerns, and strategies.

The panellists are:

Celestine Kunkeler:

Dr Celestine Kunkeler (they/them) is a postdoctoral fellow at C-REX, researching historical violent transnational far-right networks, and contemporary anti-trans (far) right politics. They received their PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2019, with a thesis on myth-making practices and respectability in Swedish and Dutch fascism in the 1930s.

Catherine Tebaldi

Dr Catherine Tebaldi is a postdoctoral research assistant at the University of Luxembourg. She hold a PhD from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her research focuses on digital ethnography and the far right.

Meili Criezis

Her research focuses on Islamic State propaganda, extremism in online spaces, and gender/political violence.

Chelsea Daymon

Chelsea Daymon (she/her) is the Program Manager for the Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Program, Violent Extremism Education and Resilience (VEER). She is a terrorism and extremism researcher and Ph.D. candidate in Justice, Law & Criminology in the School of Public Affairs at American University. Methods and ethics webinar series

This webinar is part of the series 'Researching the far right: methods and ethics', co-organized by C-REX and PERIL (American University).

This webinar series aims to initiate and facilitate a much needed discussion about the methodological, ethical, political, personal, practical and professional issues and challenges that arise when researching far right parties, protest movements, and violent actions.

The webinars last one hour and take place every second Thursday of the month. The webinar will have one or two (short) presentations followed by a Q&A session.
