Election of Dean and Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Social Sciences

In the autumn of 2023, a new dean and vice-dean will be elected at the faculty.

Propose candidates for the dean and vice-dean election

You can propose candidates for the dean election from now until October 13, 2023. Proposals should be sent to the secretary of the election committee, Kari Henriksen.

Who can become dean and vice-dean?

  • Must have relevant background and have had an active research career, preferably with professor competence
  • The candidate must be employed in a permanent academic position at the faculty. External candidates can also be selected, and the same qualification requirements apply for external candidates as for internal candidates.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplinary boundaries and with different staff groups
  • International networks and the ability to promote the faculty externally
  • Experience in academic leadership, personnel management, and financial management
  • Experience in acquiring research funding from various sources
  • Strong leadership qualities and personal suitability, such as initiative, creativity, flexibility, strategic thinking, results orientation, communication, and collaboration skills

Who can propose candidates?

  • Proposals for candidates must be signed by at least ten eligible voters.
  • Candidates who are proposed should have been approached and expressed willingness to take on the position if elected.
  • All proposals must be formulated in a way that ensures that both the dean and vice-dean positions are filled when the election is completed.
  • Everyone who has the right to vote also has the right to propose candidates.
  • You can only sign one proposal for the same position.

Presentation of candidates

The election committee will present candidates who meet the criteria continuously from Tuesday, June 20, to Friday, October 13.

Right to vote

Students and permanent employees in at least a half-time position at the faculty, as well as Adjunct Professors, have the right to vote. In addition, temporary employees have the right to vote if they are in a continuous employment relationship of at least 50% with a duration of at least one year on the days of the election.

Election period

The election will take place from November 6 to 10, 2023.

The votes will be counted separately for the following three groups and weighted as follows:

  • Permanent and temporary teaching and research staff: 53%
  • Technical and administrative staff: 22%
  • Students: 25%
