Jostein Askim

Professor at Department of Political Sciences

Self presentation:

I have a strong understanding of the Faculty and the university's governance structure, as well as extensive experience working in collegial bodies. This enables me to effectively advocate in the Faculty board for the interests of the permanent scientific staff. Since joining the Department of Political Science in 2011, I have served as the department's deputy head and been a member of the departmental board for eight years. Additionally, I have been involved in the Faculty's PhD program committee and have led an interdisciplinary BA program. My experience also includes membership in several public committees and the board of the Institute for Social Research.

If elected to the Faculty board, my goal is to ensure excellent research opportunities for both those engaged in large externally funded projects and those pursuing independent research interests without such frameworks. I firmly believe in the importance of having strong and autonomous departments within the Faculty. Prioritization of research and teaching efforts should be approached from a bottom-up perspective, with the Faculty providing professional support services and overseeing departments' financial management and administrative practices. The Faculty should also strive to establish favorable framework conditions for the social sciences in relation to the university, funding entities, and regulatory authorities. Finally, I am dedicated to ensuring that all departments within the Faculty successfully navigate the upcoming changes in the financial allocation model.

Nominated by Marte Mangset, Per Gunnar Røe, Tore Nilssen, Elin Lerum Boasson and Tobias Bach

Fulvio Castellacci

Professor at Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture

Self presentation:

Background: From Rome, Italy. Resident in Norway since 2000. Professor at TIK. Research field: Economics of innovation. Teaching: Coordinator of Master programs TIK and ESST (2015-2017); coordinator of Faculty’s PhD course SV9107 International Publishing. Leadership experience: Director of TIK Centre (2014-2022); Board member (UiO:Energi).

Main proposal: If I get elected, I would like to establish a new forum that will bring together Board representatives of permanent scientific employees from all Departments and Centres at the Faculty. The forum will meet before each Faculty Board meeting in order to discuss issues in the Board’s agenda as well as to make suggestions about new items to be discussed. The forum will lead to closer dialogue and a broader representation of permanent scientific employees at the Faculty Board.

Themes: I have been part of the Faculty’s Head of Departments group for eight years, and I have good knowledge of all most important themes that are discussed at the Faculty level. In the coming years, in particular, I would like the following emerging themes to be high on the agenda:

1. Research: Use of AI in research, opportunities and questions for research ethics.

2. Education: Digitalization and mapping of competence needs in the new job market.

3. Organization: A new model to allocate Faculty’s resources that will have a balanced focus on both research results and quality of educational programs.

4. Employment conditions: Wage policy and incentives that are necessary to recruit and retain highly qualified researchers.

Nominated by Timothy John Brennen, Sverre Johan Herstad, Francesca Refsum Jensenius, Jo Thori Lind and Taran Mari Thune

Nikolai Olavi Czajkowski

Associate Professor at Department of Psychology

Self presentation:

I have been a full-time employee at the Department of Psychology since 2012, and interdisciplinary collaboration has been a common thread in both my research and teaching. I helped to establish the interdisciplinary research center PROMENTA, where I now lead a research group. On the teaching side, I am part of the leadership team for the Center of Excellence in Education (SFU) for Interdisciplinary Education, INT-ED. As a member of the faculty board, I aim to break down organizational barriers and promote an environment that stimulates interdisciplinary research and teaching.

The past year brought the first clear signs of a long-anticipated revolution in artificial intelligence, a development that could have major implications for the university and society as a whole. This technology will affect how we conduct research, teach, and disseminate knowledge. I want to help position our faculty at the forefront of this development, capitalizing on the opportunities AI brings, and preparing our students for the future job market.

Nominated by Espen Røysamb, Egil Nygaard, Mona Brekkhus, Christian Krog Tamnes and Tilmann von Soest

Ingjerd Hoem

Professor at Department of Social Anthropology

Self presentation:

I have extensive knowledge of all the Departments and Centers at the Faculty, from previous positions as Head of Department and Vice Dean. I am also a board representative at the Institute for Social Research (Institutt for Samfunnsforskning). The Faculty of Social Sciences consists of excellent professional environments, we conduct research at a high level and train new generations of social scientists.
It is important that this expertise is safeguarded, also through an active dissemination of our results, to the Norwegian public, to politicians and internationally.

In the coming period, if I were to be elected as a representative of the scientific staff on the faculty board, I would like to emphasize the following matters: Continuing the work for a good working environment, through personnel policy, focus on employment procedures, the safety ombudsman institution and, not least, by making connections to the working life that our candidates will enter.
I see the faculty board as an important arena for supporting and building good measures that promote professional development and collaboration across the disciplines, with strengthening our teaching programmes with a view to being able to meet the challenges and needs of the future.
There is reason to believe that the university sector, and the social sciences, will be under increasing pressure in the years ahead. I am passionate about the SV subjects, and would like to contribute strategically to help ensure that we can continue to have good infrastructural conditions for our academic work. As a board member, I will emphasize being responsive and available to the academic staff.

Nominated by Theodoros Rakopoulos and Rune Flikke

Trine Waaktaar

Professor at Department of Psychology

Self presentation:

I am professor of clinical psychology at the Department of Psychology, and until the turn of 2023-24, I am also the Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences. My research primarily focuses on developmental psychology, where I am the PI of a longitudinal twin study on stress and resilience in adolescents. I have several years of leadership experience, first as a section leader outside UiO, then as a clinic leader, and later as deputy leader for the department and leader of education at PSI. The last four years, I have had the position as Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

My board experience includes being an employee representative on the board of the Regional Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (RBUP), four years as deputy leader on the department board at PSI, and four years as the Dean of Studies with meeting rights in the faculty board at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

During my time in the deanship, I have developed a strong commitment to the importance of all social sciences in handling future societal change and sustainability challenges.

The faculty board is the most important strategic body for the Faculty of Social Sciences. As an employee representative, I would like to contribute what I can to ensure that we make good choices in both research, education, and organization, and that we make well-founded decisions that are beneficial to society, our fields of study, people here, and the overall faculty.
