Communication Strategy for the Faculty of Social Sciences 2024 - 2030

The communication strategy was adopted by the faculty board in December 2023.

Strategy 2030 and the faculty's annual plans guide all work at the University of Oslo and the Faculty of Social Sciences. These strategies form the basis for the two main objectives of the communication strategy. Therefore, the communication strategy follows the same timeframe as the faculty's Strategy 2030. Measures to help achieve the objectives of the communication strategy are incorporated into the faculty's annual plans.

The communication strategy is owned by the enrite faculty  and is operationalized in action plans for activities that contribute to the objectives.

Main Goal: Contribute to Good Recruitment

The faculty is and should be perceived as the most attractive place in the country to study social sciences. The goal is for more students to complete their study programs and find their education relevant and attractive for the job market and significant societal challenges. We should enhance employers' understanding of and knowledge about the students' competencies, and highlight collaborative platforms between alumni, societal and work-life actors, and the students. Diversity among students is important, and the faculty will work for a more even gender distribution and to make the faculty an attractive study destination regardless of background.

Sub-Goals

  • The faculty should recruit applicants who are well qualified and well prepared to study social science subjects

  • Increase contact with the workforce to strengthen the perceived relevance to working life

  • Increase knowledge about job opportunities after completing studies through targeted alumni activities

  • Increase pride and belonging among students

  • Increase diversity among students in the study programs

  • Showcase innovative teaching and student-active learning methods

Main Goal: Contribute to a Knowledge-Based Public Debate

Dissemination is one of the university's societal missions, and it is crucial that knowledge from the university reaches the public. Social science research helps set the premises for societal development. The faculty facilitates researchers' initiatives to participate in the public debate. This is important for achieving the objective in Strategy 2030 of strengthening dialogue with the outside world and working for knowledge to be used.

Sub-Goals

  • The faculty is and should be perceived as an internationally leading environment for social research

  • The faculty shall facilitate participation in public debates

  • Contribute to highlighting the faculty's research by communicating new and existing knowledge

  • Contribute to showcasing social science research's and researchers' contributions to society.
