New Master thesis: A woman’s touch. The impact of gender on political priorities

Sammendrag

Recent studies have found evidence that the gender of elected politicians matters for political outcomes. In my thesis I discuss the possibility of such an effect theoretically within the framework of political economics. In my own empirical analysis using a rich panel data set, I find that more women in Norwegian local councils seems to have led to more spending on public childcare and cultural services. The estimated effects are however very small in magnitude.
