The jury highlights that Professor Moene has been news-worthy and to-the-point in his communication of science, and that he maintains a high academic standard whilst managing to communicate far beyond the limits of his strand. Moene is often referred to as commentator and columnist and has an extensive production of chronicles, letters to the editor and popular scientific articles. The jury furthermore emphasises Moene’s availability for the media and beyond.
In his speech of reception, Professor Moene drew attention to his many talented colleagues at ESOP, who conduct interesting research which deserves attention. Inspired by the theme of the Norwegian Research Week which is chemistry, Moene launched the concept “the chemistry of equality” which to some extent describes ESOP’s research focus. “In egalitarian societies such as the Nordic ones, increases in inequality get noticed. And people are very concerned about this topic”.
