Welcome to another public lecture hosted by the Classes and Elites Research Seminar.

In this public lecture, Dr. Sam Friedman will explore how taste in comedy function as a expression of cultural capital. The ability to appreciate the "right" kinds of comedy, but also, crucially, to be able to appreciate comedy in the right way, is a shown to be a powerful distinction - also expressed in disdain for those who do not "get it".

China’s urban population could top 1 billion people in the next two decades. Can China successfully navigate through this uncharted water, and realize its urban dream?

Professor will give a talk and take part in a conversation about drivers of urbanization, spatial and temporal dynamics in urban systems, and city´s role in sustainability transitions. The seminar will explore a broad conception of citizenship as a common frame for geographical research on topics such as democratization struggles, transnationalism, labour mobilization and media representations.

The seminar will start with an introduction by Professor Karen O’Brien at Department of Sociology and Human Geography, UiO and then there will be a talk by Dr. Ananka Loubser a Philosopher at North-West University in South Africa. A discussion will follow.
