Lars Erik Kjekshus at ISS will present his work on Theorizing Digitalism. Healthcare organization consist of several competing institutional logics making healthcare organizations complex and difficult to manage. Digitalisation of the healthcare services has proven to be difficult with several adverse effects and implementation deficits. Kjekshus combine institutional logic theory with information systems research to argue for digitalism as the institutional logic of digitalization. The arguments is illustrated with a case study of a process of organizational development before and after the implementation of centralised large-scale IT systems at a large Norwegian hospital. The understanding of digitalism as a sensitizing concept offers insight in how large-scale technology and organizations are tied together and could contribute to reduced organizational dysfunctionalities and enhanced implementation of IT system in organizations.
