Climate Change and the Role of Art

What other types of knowledge does art foster that will be helpful faced the challenge of climate change? What are the multiple ways art can contribute to sustainable transformations?

Welcome to the third Climate and Society Forum, which will take place on Wednesday the 14th of November in Undervisningsrom 1 in Georg Sverdrups hus.

This week we will explore and discuss the relationship between climate change and art. Tone Bjordam, an artist working on climate change, will give a short presentation and take part in the discussion. She is a co-author of Teaching originality? Common habits behind creative production in science and art, an article by Scheffer et al (2017) published in Ecology and Society that considers the important role of creativity in science as well as art. They point to some habits that can foster this creativity.

Another good introductory article for this theme is ‘Raising the temperature’: the arts on a warming planet by Galfassi et al. (2018) in COSUST where they look at the role arts can play for the climate change transformations needed to reach the 1.5 target.

The Climate and Society Forum is a space where people who are interested in climate change can engage with specific themes and exchange thoughts and perspectives on our individual and collective role in transformations to sustainability.
