Intro:

If climate change is not just an environmental crisis but a social and cultural one, what are social scientists hoping to achieve with their research? In the 10th issue of Tvergastein, Human Geography PhD student Irmelin Gram-Hanssen argues for the importance of and potential for building bridges between academia and the rest of society in the pursuit of transformation change. Inspired by Paulo Freire’s 1970 book on the pedagogy of the oppressed, she reflects on the role of research in supporting “the emergence of consciousness and critical intervention in reality.”
