Karen O'Brien

Karen O'Brien, professor ved Institutt for sosiologi og samfunnsgeografi, vil snakke om klimaendringer og samfunnsvitenskapens og menneskets rolle i dette:

The uneven impacts of climate change, biodiversity loss, and global inequality are visible and the consequences for development are profound. We hear loud and urgent calls for transformative change, and thousands of initiatives are currently promoting sustainability. Still, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the scale of the problems, the devastating consequences, and the perpetuation of business as usual. At a time when many people are giving up hope, we may need to take a different approach. But do we have the courage to engage with alternative strategies for transformative change? This is where the social sciences and humanities have an important role to play. In this talk, I will focus on the relationships between individual change, collective change, and systems change. I will reflect on why people are the most potent and powerful solution to climate change – and why you matter more than you think!

Foredraget vil gå på engelsk.

Dørene åpner 1700, arrangementet begynner 1715.
