Funded by the NOMA Programme (2007-2010)

The main objective of the masters program in democracy studies at the two partner universities in Sri Lanka and Indonesia is to offer a much needed master program which secures and enhances knowledge and research capacity on contextual issues of democracy, including questions regarding human rights and conflict resolution. This overarching objective will be achieved through a set of sub-objectives:

  • To develop master level courses at UGM, University of Colombo and UiO that will train the students in the scope and methodology of political science, political theories, and political analysis of selected subject matters.
  • To train students to undertake independent master level research projects under supervision by academic staff at the participating universities.
  • To expose students to comparative experiences outside their home country and facilitate international collaboration and comparisons.
  • To enhance institutional capacity for teaching, research and administration at partner institutions in the South.
