Swedish conditions in Oslo?

We kick off the PODS seminar-series with Torbjørn Skardhamar. He will present on Swedish conditions in Oslo?

In the past decade, Sweden has experienced a large increase in gang violence, strongly linked to what is termed “vulnerable areas”. This has sparked concerns about vulnerable areas across the Nordic countries to prevent “Swedish conditions”, which are linked to ethnic segregation more broadly. While Sweden and Denmark have official definitions of vulnerable neighborhoods and publishes lists of such areas, it is more of a loose term in Norwegian setting. In this study, we use the definitions used in Denmark and Sweden, combined with registry data on the population of Oslo to check if such vulnerable areas exist in Oslo, and explore the rates of reported crimes in these areas.
