Professor emeritus Johan P. Olsen from ARENA Centre for European studies held the plenary lecture in the University Aula surrounded by Edvard Munch’s paintings. He spoke about how the ongoing transformations of the political organisation of Europe make it possible to explore phenomena that are difficult to see in more stable periods. Such as accountability-demands, where political leaders are required to explain and justify what they are doing and not doing. Following the plenary lecture, the conference participants enjoyed themselves at a reception at the spectacular Opera house at the head of the Oslo-fjord. The rest of the conference took place on campus Blindern; consisting of almost 450 panels, four roundtables and a well visited book exhibition.
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Hosting ECPR General Conference 2017 has been a great way of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Department of Political Science at the University of Oslo.
