There’s no question that with the COVID-19 pandemic came devastating consequences across the globe—however for some people, these events also brought about a new shift in perspectives on life.

The key for preparing society for coping with the effects of future crises is understanding how people respond to these experiences. A team of PROMENTA researchers were up for the challenge and examined which people experienced positive change during the pandemic. By collecting survey data on over 12,000 Oslo high school students, they identified four key predictors in the prevalence of personal growth during the pandemic: life satisfaction, parental care, worries about the pandemic and immigrant status.

Predicting is the first step to intervening and these findings represent an important step in providing information on who would most benefit from additional help in reinterpreting experiences during the pandemic to promote personal growth. More details are available here
