Metode, arbeids-, kultur- og sosialpsyk

Activities of the section consist of research, dissemination, and teaching in the fields of methodology, work and organizational psychology, cultural and social psychology, and social psychology.

Teaching

The section coordinates teaching at all levels: the bachelor's, master's, professional, and Ph.D. programs at the department.
The bachelor's and master's programs provide in-depth study within the section's subject area.

Research

MAKS is dedicated to creating a dynamic research ecosystem that empowers scholars to thrive. Our section hosts research endeavors facilitated through an array of prestigious grants, including the National Funding Resources (NFR) and European Research Council (ERC) grants, supporting groundbreaking projects. MAKS has been supported by research funds and grants from several prominent institutions. Among them, Stiftelsen Dam prioritizes societal impact in the health domain while Grieg brings Polish-Norwegian research teams together to address research challenges. Moreover, we are part of the interfaculty initiatives ‘UiO: Norden’, which fosters cross-border research exchanges encouraging global perspectives, and ‘UiO: Energy and environment’ which addresses vital environmental concerns and fuels sustainability research. Furthermore, we nurture research through internally financed PhD programs and provide hands-on research experience via internships. Our academic exchange programs broaden horizons, fostering collaboration and enriching research. Section members are active in several research groups, which are often interdisciplinary and international, and which are listed on the right.

Groups

The section organizes its activities in four groups, each of which is responsible for a set of teaching activities, and also organizes research exchange.

Method

The section has expertise in both qualitative and quantitative methods and is responsible for general method and statistics education across the institute's programs. The department is involved in research within a wide range of psychology disciplines, where the common denominator is often the need for methodological competence.

Culture and Community Psychology

Through analysis of discourses and social contexts, in our research, we examine different forms of practices people engage in, how people live under certain social conditions, and how they give meaning to their lives.

Work and Organizational Psychology

The group’s research focuses on organizations, teams, individuals, and the use of technology. Our teaching aims at developing graduates with high employability in the Norwegian and international labor markets. We cooperate widely with Norwegian and international partners in our research and teaching.

Social Psychology

Social psychology studies the mutual influence between the individual and their social environment. Social psychology encompasses studies of culture and society, as well as public health.
