Academic interests
My major interest is how our brain makes predictions of future events. Is our brain a prediction machine to some extent?
I use different experiments in the auditory sensory domain to characterize the neuronal networks that are active when we make predictions, and interestingly, when these predictions are violated by unexpected events. I’m interested in modeling the brain network involved in these tasks, and to test different theoretical approaches with these models. I work mainly with intracranial recordings (ECoG or SEEG) obtained from epilepsy patients, implanted for medical reasons. These recordings allow us to observe brain activity with a unique spatio-temporal resolution. I also study patients with frontal lobe lesions to better understand the role of the frontal lobe in the prediction network. I am currently leading the AudioPred project to study these predictive processes.
I’m also interested in methods for the localization of intracranial electrodes. In this vein, I developed iElectrodes, an open-source toolbox running on MATLAB ® to perform intracranial electrodes localization. The toolbox uses MRI and CT images to localize, number and anatomically label intracranial grids (ECoG) and depth (SEEG) electrodes. For more information, please visit the iElectrodes project page.
