Software for Analysis

There are many systematization tools you can use in the analysis process of your qualitative data. It may take some time to become familiar with these tools, but with larger amounts of data it could be worthwhile to learn them.

Note! None of these programs do the work for you – you still need to conduct the analysis yourself. The programs simply help you keep track and easily find quotes and examples for the categories you've chosen. If you have a large dataset consisting of large quantities of text, these programs can be a valuable aid in organizing content to make it easier to identify patterns. They are used to organize codes and themes into folders (words or sentences that share something in common), and can assist you in categorizing your work.

Examples of such programs include Maxqda, Atlas, and f4-analysis, but it is NVivo that UiO now has licensed for students and staff. Alternatively, functions in Word and Excel can also be used to systematize qualitative data for analysis.
