Clinicians experiences with children and young people who perpetrate violence and abuse

There is very little knowledge about children and young people who engage in problematic or harmful sexual behavior, despite the fact that between 30-50% of sexual abuse against children and young people is committed by other children and young people. Therapists in Child and Youth Psychiatry (BUP) meet both children who are exposed to and who perpetrate violence and abuse.

Main goal

The aim of the study is to increase our knowledge on:

  • Therapists' experience with, and perceived knowledge of, children and young people in BUP with problematic and/or harmful sexual behavior.

  • Which methods, systems/procedures and support therapists have in working with children and young people with problematic and/or harmful sexual behavior.

  • Whether perceived competence and support is related to the therapist's experience of coping, burnout and secondary traumatizing stress.

Method

We will use a cross-sectional design where data will be collected at a given time in a predefined population that includes therapists and leaders working in Norwegian BUPs. In addition, qualitative interviews will be conducted by a sub group of therapists and leaders. Insert link to the project
