| NAS | Network Attached Storage. Tool for accessing file storage via an IP-network requiring the mounting of remotely located file systems. |
| NSD | Norsk Senter for Forskningsdata (Norwegian Center for Research Data). Government ethics agency responsible for ensuring that sensitive research data is handled in a secure manner. Also provides long-term storage of data. |
| SAN | Storage Area Network. A grouped block of storage space for data located outside of the main server. |
| TSD | Tjenester for sensitive data (Services for Sensitive Data). The group under USIT responsible for the development and support for secure data systems for highly sensitive data in research. |
| UIO | Universitetet i Oslo (University of Oslo). |
| USIT | Universitetets senter for informasjonsteknologi (The University's Center for Information Technology). The overarching entity for all IT-services at UiO. |
| VDI | Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. An IT service available to researchers at UiO which creates a virtual computer environment for analysis and other tasks. |
