By “resource politics”, we refer not only to political and violent struggles over land, water, food, minerals, and energy sources, but also to the political histories and practices that constitute something as a resource or an asset in the first place. Working at the intersection between political economy, environmental anthropology, and multi-species ethnography, we are interested in a broad range of intellectual fields and political challenges – from global ecologies and studies of landscapes, to the significance of climate change and histories of labour, to environmental humanities and ecological activism.
The Working Group was established in March 2019, and is coordinated by Christian Krohn-Hansen, Marianne Lien, and Knut G. Nustad, as a reading group with monthly meetings. In 2020-21, the group will in particular work on the anthropology of ownership and possession, and contemporary thinking about property relations.
The group is open to all permanent and temporary staff, but as we seek to develop this group as a cumulative conversation among staff, we ask that members commit to taking part in the monthly meetings.
