About

Oware Kevine Amolloh is a social anthropologist trained at Maseno university. In his planned PhD project, tentatively titled “Following the Mercury”, part of AnthEMs cluster on extractive industries, Kevine will follow artisanal gold miners’ daily entanglement with mercury that is used to extract gold from the ore as an amalgam, explore their experiences with mercury exposure, and how they try to compensate for the attendant risks.

Kevine is supervised by Dr Charline Kopf (University of Oslo), Prof. Erick Nyambedha (Maseno University), and will be given an additional supervisor from the University of Nairobi.
