About
Sharon has been trained as a social anthropologist at the universities of Nairobi and Leuven. Her planned PhD research titled “Killer Gold Mines”, part of the cluster on extractive industries, will investigate why artisanal mining continues to attract people despite the existential physical and environmental hazards. Using an ethnographic lens, artisanal mining will be studied as a livelihood issue and one that is central to the everyday life of artisanal miners.
