Workshop and public lecture at Institut für Sozialwissenschaften, Universität Stuttgart

Kristin Asdal will hold a workshop on "doing document analysis" and give a public lecture on Nature-Made Economy in Stuttgart.

30 - 31 January 2024, Kristin Asdal has been invited to give a workshop on practice-oriented document analysis, based on the book by Asdal and Hilde Reinertsen that was recently published with SAGE Research Methods: Doing Document Analysis. A practice-oriented method (2022). Participation is by invitation only.

On January 31, 2024 at 4.30 pm, Asdal will also give a public lecture on her book co-authored with Tone Huse, Nature-Made Economy: Cod, Capital, and the Great Economization of the Ocean (2023), published by MIT Press.

Nature-Made Economy tells the story about the great economization of the ocean through the little tools and valuations that make this happen. By following the famous codfish around, across policy documents, at sites where prices are set, qualities are valued, and cod habits are sought disciplined, it traces how nature acts upon economy and vice versa. Throughout this, book and presentation show how different “versions of economization” materialize, are grown and cared for, but also fail, sometimes quite spectacularly.

The lecture will take place at Seidenstr 23, 36.21, 2nd floor.
