Our entire society is built on trust in public documents: from legislation and expert reports to property contracts and government decisions. However, the significance of document work is often underestimated, making its maintenance vulnerable. This vulnerability poses a risk for both individual citizens and for democracy.
There is a great need to increase the understanding of the importance of documents and the effects of digitization, both for the society as a whole and for individual employees in the public sector. The goal of the "Little tools of democracy" project (DOKUPRAX) is to implement the practice-based method for document work developed through ERC project "Little Tools".
By using this method, citizens and public sector employees will have access to a concrete tools that clarify and operationalize what document work consists of and what documents do for democracy. The book "Doing Document Analysis. A Practice-Oriented Method" presents a hands-on guide to doing document analysis.
