"How economists care for the environment" - Kristin Asdal on valuation in Paris

Kristin Asdal will be presenting the paper "How economists care for the environment:the little tools of valuation in office work" at the "Valuation and Evaluation" workshop in Paris, 9-10 December.

About the workshop: The “Valuation and Evaluation” workshop addresses empirical and theoretical dimensions of (e)valuation in the social sciences. By providing heuristic analytical tools, we will explore a variety of fields and subjects such as research, finance, arts, public policy, etc. and will also look into other practices, less traditionally associated with this concept. We will ask how to approach the plurality of situations in which (e)valuation takes place and will put special emphasis on the question: What continuities can be imagined and distinguished between intuitive valuation methods and institutionalized processes of evaluation?

The organization of the “Valuation and Evaluation” workshop is a joint initiative of the Institut Marcel Mauss (IMM), of the Centre d’Etude des Mouvements Sociaux (CEMS) and of the Science and Technology Group (GST), of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS, Paris) and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and the research team DISCONEX, funded by the European Research Council (ERC).
