Travel and directions

We kindly ask all participants to make their own travel arrangements. As the conference starts on Thursday morning, we would ask all participants to arrive Oslo no later than Wednesday evening, 3 April. Oslo has three airports, but it is advisable to fly to/from Oslo Airport Gardermoen, which offers the best availability of flights and also the best access to the city centre.

We will reimburse travel costs for all registered participants. Please keep your tickets, receipts and also all boarding passes, and send these to ARENA together with the ARENA reimbursement form.

From Gardermoen airport to Hotel Savoy

The Airport Express Train (Flytoget) is the fastest way of getting from Oslo Airport Gardermoen to the city centre, the travel time is approx. 25 minutes. The train gets you directly to Nationaltheatret Station, which is some 600 metres from Hotel Savoy. The Airport Express Train departs every 10 minutes, but please note that the final destination of every second train is Oslo S (central station), and does not take you all the way. Only trains with destination Drammen stop at Nationaltheatret, departure every 20 minutes.

You have two options when buying the ticket for the Airport Express Train: First, you can buy it from orange ticket vending machines at the arrival hall or at the ticket counter(recommended since you will receive the ticket on paper). Second, you can simply use your credit card by swiping it at the card reader at the airport before descending the stairs to the platform. On your way back to the airport you can do the same at the train station. If you choose this option, you will have to register your credit card online so that you can receive a receipt (this can be done after the journey), without which we will not be able to refund your ticket.

Make sure to use either the exit Stortingsgata or Ruseløkkveien when leaving the train/metro stop at Nationaltheatret (not Parkveien/Henrik Ibsens gate).

See map here.

From Hotel Savoy to Blindern campus

Option 1: Metro (T-bane)

The metro stop Stortinget is located 400 meters from the hotel, whereas the stop Nationaltheatret is located 450 metres from the hotel. Take one of the following lines: No 3 ‘Storo’, 6 ‘Sognsvann’, or 4 ‘Ringen’. Get off at the Blindern stop after 6-7 minutes.

Option 2: Tram (trikk)

The tram stop Tullinløkka is located 100 meters from the hotel. Take tram No 17 or 18, both direction ‘Rikshospitalet’. Get off at the Universitetet Blindern stop after about 11 minutes.

Tickets are sold at vending machines at metro stops or in Narvesen, Deli de Luca and 7 Eleven kiosks. It is also possible to buy single tickets in cash on board of buses and trams, but not on metros.
